Tarter is a hard-yellow deposit on your teeth. Brushing properly and using mouthwash are basic to maintaining good oral health. However, if you fail to do so, food, mineral salts, and bacteria start setting on your teeth. This is known as plaque which over time turns into tartar. This yellow hard deposit on your teeth is not very attractive to look at and is not good for oral health as well. That’s why it’s important to remove tartar from your teeth on a regular basis. Going to a dentist for something like this is not quite practical, especially when you can deal with it at home. Yes, you can get rid of tartar at home with the help of these 8 natural remedies.
White Vinegar
Gargling with white vinegar can help to remove tartar that has built up between your teeth and around your gums. White vinegar is naturally antibacterial, and will help break down or soften tartar if used once or twice daily as a mouthwash. Swish a mixture of 2 cups of warm water, 2 teaspoons of white vinegar, and a pinch of salt around your mouth for a few minutes. Do this after or in between brushing your teeth. If you have any open wounds in your mouth,
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is also antibacterial so it can help prevent plaque and remove tartar buildup. It’s also anti-inflammatory which means it’s also very soothing for people with gum problems. You can either use a mixture of aloe vera juice and water as a mouthwash daily or combine ingredients into a paste and brush your teeth with it. Add 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel with 4 teaspoons of glycerin, 5 tablespoons of baking soda and a cup of water. Only use as much as you need and rinse with warm water afterwards.
Orange Peels
Orange peels contain Vitamin C, also referred to as Ascorbic Acid. It’s a crucial nutrient for improved oral health, particularly gums. Acidic by nature, vitamin C can dissolve tartar buildup without vigorous scrubbing and prevents plaque-building bacteria. Vitamin C will also whiten stained and yellow teeth.
Rubbing the inside of an orange peel on your gums and teeth can help remove tartar buildup. You can also mash the inside of an orange peel with water and use it as toothpaste. Do this 2-3 times per week, and always finish by rinsing your mouth with warm water.
Coconut Oil
The Ayurvedic oral practice of oil pulling is simply swishing coconut oil around your mouth for 5-20 minutes every morning. Coconut oil contains antioxidants and is antibacterial, so it helps to fight against the bacteria in your mouth that cause plaque and tartar. Add 1 teaspoon of warm or liquid coconut oil to your mouth and swirl it around, forcing it through the gaps of your teeth for as long as possible. Spit the oil into a paper towel and throw it away; spitting coconut oil into your sink could clog your drain pipe. Always brush your teeth after oil pulling.
Baking soda to remove tartar
Sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, can help treat and prevent tartar buildup on your teeth. It does this by softening tartar and balancing the acids in your mouth that create plaque and stop it from turning into tartar. Additionally, because baking soda is mildly abrasive, it can be used to scrub away surface stains and whiten your teeth. However, it cannot remove deeper stains.
Only use a little bit of baking soda and be careful not to damage your tooth enamel by scrubbing too harshly. Brush your teeth with a mixture of baking soda and water on your toothbrush, or mix it in with your toothpaste. You could also leave a paste of baking soda and water on for 15 minutes for extra effect.
